At Neil Lerner’s north London showroom a kitchen is never just a kitchen. It is a cooking, eating and living zone; where you are likely to spend much of your time. Yet, more than anything, a Neil Lerner kitchen is the product of 30 years of experience, utilising space carefully and stylishly interpreting the latest fashion without being a slave to it.
Known for his refreshingly unfussy and functional urban look, Neil creates contemporary kitchens that are custom-designed in England and manufactured in Germany. As always he exhibits his natural instinct for trends and a keen interest in the development and use of materials.
Recently launched is the modular kitchen (shown) and Neil enjoys challenging the way we think of kitchen design with this new concept. By stripping the fitted kitchen back to its bare essentials, it is possible to rebuild and create a system kitchen based on 28 functional elements. Each segment is a stand alone item in its own right and can be combined exactly to need and taste. Best of all, the modules – for storage, cooking, baking and washing – can be taken away when you move. Genius!
Sculptor Cathy Azria re-invents the Bonfire
Best known for her indoor fire sculptures, now artists Cathy Azria has re-invented her “Bonfire” concept for the garden. Built to special commission, her fires can form the heart of an ‘outdoor room’. Running on mains gas, they can be designed into a chimney or built into fireproof/frost proof ‘box’ vessels or set on a slab.
Above shot shows:
Planes. Tapering steel plates are stacked and leant against each other to define geometric planes through a structural form. Added drama is created by the stack’s apparent (but not actual) instability.

Fire Pit. This outdoor fire looks like a traditional bonfire, but it is made of steel and set into
a bed of chippings.
