De Ferranti is to hold a mosaic workshop at Decorex 2011

At Decorex 2011, DE FERRANTI celebrates the beauty of custom-made mosaics by creating and building a complete mosaic from start to finish at Stand K350

De Ferranti promises something different this year at Decorex with the entire stand being transformed into a working mosaic workshop.

Instead of the usual treasure trove of tiles, the display will focus on the creation of a custom-made mosaic which will unravel in front of visitors’ eyes as their gifted in-house mosaicist, a graduate of the Ravenna School of Mosaic, puts together the tiny stone tesserae piece by piece.

Mosaics have a long and rich tradition going back to the Greeks and Romans, but are surprisingly relevant to contemporary interiors. The stand will celebrate the revival of mosaics today and encourage all visitors to get involved by selling a mosaic kit, so they can make their own decorative panel at home.

At the end of the show, the completed mosaic panel will be raffled off and all proceeds will go to the Royal Marsden Hospital. Supporting cancer research and the recovery of patients – by contributing to Maggie’s Centres – is the official charity for Decorex 2011; information about the caring work of these centres can be viewed at www.maggiescentres.org.

Art Deco Metropolis by B&D Design

‘Metropolis’, Cathy Azria’s stunning fire sculpture, pays homage to Fritz Lang’s epic of 1927. Tall strips of metal echo the film’s extraordinary deco skyline and gas flames from a concealed burner lick through them to cinematic effect.  Each ‘Metropolis’ fire is made to order and will be an individual piece, handmade, signed and numbered.
