Style arbitrators Yves St Laurent and Pierre Berge had a desk covered in it, the ancient Egyptians used it to make mirrors and the Japanese powdered it and sprinkled it on to pasted paper to give an iridescent sheen to fans and woodblock prints.

Now Paris Ceramics is offering this unique material as a 20cm square tile for cladding interior walls. Composed of aluminium silicate, micas are characterized by their metallic lustre and ability to split perfectly into translucent or transparently thin sheets.

Uses: Walls. Interiors. Feature panels. Cladding.
Size: Supplied as a 20 cm square veneer
Colourways: bronze mica (as shown) or gold mica
Cost: £450 a square metre exc vat.
