Art Illuminated

The work of Morrocan-born Ghizlan el Glaoui, an exceptionally unique artist, is now available at Keir Townsend’s Old Brompton showroom.

Ghizlan’s entrancing selection of portraits are lit up from behind; the light combined with the strong colours and mosaic effect make these paintings truly wonderful to behold. For the transparency, which is crucial to her work, she uses modern metallic paint whilst the contrasting opacity and texture is achieved by using oils and traditional temperas.

“My wish is to find the ideal lighting to enhance the portrait, in order to achieve an ever-changing image.’

The pictures are perfect for those who love vivid imagery, light, colour and a style evocative of Morocco – warm, exotic and timelessly beautiful.

Who you gonna call…..?

Tired of his existing interior a London home owner decided to call in the experts to reinvigorate his apartment!

Interior specialists Irina Townsend of Keir Townsend helped to transform the space from tired and outdated to high-end luxury.

Luxurious touches include Art Deco-style lacquered wood wall panelling, wall mounted taps with black marble detail as well as stone textured mosaic tiles.

With an enviable collection of wine decanters, Keir Townsend suggested bespoke display cabinets made from wenge wood with copper strips to show off the unique pieces.

Understated and luxurious the apartment now has a new lease of life!

Keir Townsend shortlisted for International Design & Architecture Awards

We are proud to announce that Keir Townsend have been shortlisted for two of their projects at the International Design & Architecture Awards.

The Awards are hosted by design et al, a leading UK interior design magazine. The ID&A Awards offer a number of different categories covering residential architecture, interior design and product design.

Keir Townsend have been nominated for two projects in the Interior Design – Living Space – UK award category for their apartment conversions at Bramham Gardens and Queensgate, London.

For the Bramham Garden project Keir Townsend knocked out walls to create one space for the kitchen/dining sitting area. Bespoke cabinetry was also designed by Keir Townsend and made to order by their joinery specialists.

The second project Keir Townsend are nominated for is this impressive London apartment conversion. The original layout of this apartment was changed to incorporate a functional bathroom and an open plan kitchen as an integral part of the living space. A number of decorative features were also introduced into the concept, many of which were inspired by nature, using organic patterns and natural materials.

Urban Oasis

Design partnership Keir Townsend recently helped a city professional create his perfect urban oasis.

The duo, Irina Townsend and Alastair Keir have already amassed a prestigious portfolio of  high-end work sourcing exclusive furniture, flooring and lighting from all over the world.

Part of the transformation in this property included removing the partition wall between the kitchen and living room to open up the space and bringing in a contemporary design.

Clever work with colour, tones and textures have given this London high-rise flat a new lease of life.

Italian furniture makers LauraMeroni, famous for their cabinet making, have taken their carving skills to a new level in an unique manufacturing process and created contemporary wood materials that are ideal for wall panelling, door systems and imaginative furniture design.

Creative cushions at Keir Townsend

We love the pinched detail on the cross-handle of this unlacquered brass Henry tap from Waterworks.

Steuart Padwick’s deceptively simple – but oh so clever – Sticks Coat Stand is perfect for home and office.

Paris Ceramics launched it’s new symmetry Collection of marble inlay tiles at Decorex including this elegant Edie mosaic in a variety of water jet-cut marbles (thassos, nero marquina, carrara and bardiglio).

De Ferranti’s handmade leather Molly tiles, featuring an etched pattern by textile designer Neisha Crosland, are now available in a new colour – vibrant mustard – our hot favourite!

Bespoke balustrades

Interior design studio Keir Townsend has created an innovative new approach to staircase ‘balustrades’ by adding strands of chiffon and a variety of other materials from foils to natural weaves to laminated glass panels.

In a recent high-end project, the creative team at Keir Townsend designed a bespoke staircase that elegantly utilised strands of chiffon between sheets of laminated glass to create an uber-contemporary ‘balustrade’ which acts as a divider but also allows light to flood through. The metal fixtures that join the polished concrete stairs allow for the glass panels to be changed quickly and easily to alter the look of the staircase if occasion / seasonal atmosphere should demand it. The fabric can be altered too, making the possibilities for custom-designed laminated panels almost limitless. Whether ephemeral and floaty (as with the chiffon, shown below) or glamorous and glimmering (with metal foils), these laminated panels will add character to any interior scheme.

We’re big fans of these arabesque lights & pendants – true beauty and art combined!

Hand-blown in Venice, these highly decorative Murano glass lights are available in a spectrum of colours from white to black that includes Amethyst, Smokey Grey, Emerald Green, Deep Blue and Red.

A Glass Act…

Just arrived at Keir Townsend’s Old Brompton Road showroom are these beautiful recycled glass surfaces. Available in several colours, they can be used to stunning effect in a variety of installations, including kitchen worktops, bathroom vanity units, shelving and splash backs. Because of the material’s translucent values, it can be lit up from underneath the surface to create an extraordinary display or feature.

Keir Townsend’s recycled glass surfaces are available in slabs and can be cut into custom size of up to 300mm x 1250 mm. They can also work closely with a client/interior designer to create a bespoke piece or installation.

Innovative Garden Seating

With the promise of better weather on the horizon, no doubt we’re all keen to get outside for some much needed sunshine!

Now you can take it easy in the garden with these organically shaped Pebble Stools in solid marble and wood – innovative garden seating that blends beautifully and naturally with most exterior landscapes.

Interior design studio Keir Townsend sources beautiful, high quality products and materials for its Old Brompton Road showroom. New for spring are these innovative Pebble Stools, which are created by layering a natural marble or travertine base with a tactile wood seat. In either round or oval shapes, the stools are available in 3 different sizes and look impressive on their own or in groups.
